The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced the opening of the 2022 EEO-1 Component 1 data collection to be completed no later than Dec. 5, 2023. To meet this deadline, the EEOC strongly encourages eligible filers to begin the filing process as soon as possible.

Common Mistakes
- Distinguish Multiple Locations: Employers must file separate reports for each physical location, even if these sites engage in identical business activities.
- Accurate Job Category Classification: Assigning workers to the correct EEO-1 job category is crucial. Use the job groups Kairos provides in your final files to ensure EEO-1 category accuracy.
- Report All Employees: For those employees who opt not to self-identify their race, ethnicity, or gender, use employment records or, if necessary, visual observation to fill in the missing data, as excluding these employees is not an option.
- Consider Corporate Changes: Mergers, acquisitions, or company splits come with their own set of reporting rules. The key is to be aware of the specific guidelines that pertain to when these events occurred and to ensure the relevant workforce data is available for reporting.
- Certify Your Report: Completing the certification step in the EEO-1 Online Filing System is vital. Without this, the EEOC may deem the report incomplete and issue a “Notice of Failure to File.”
